Nghe An: Reinforcing over 4,700 km of canals of all kinds

(Baonghean.vn) -In recent years, in order to improve the efficiency of agricultural production, many irrigation works for industrial crops, upland crops and drainage for crop areas in our province have been built, ensuring irrigation for nearly 90,000 hectares of industrial crops and drainage for 19,476 hectares of various crops.

If before 2003, the whole province only had 67 km of solidified canals, now it has increased to more than 4,700 km, reaching 78% of the total number of canal kilometers, being one of the two leading provinces in the country. In addition, implementing the "reservoir safety assurance" upgrading program, nearly 150 large and small reservoirs have been repaired and upgraded, hundreds of spillways have been expanded to ensure safety according to current standards.

Currently, Nghe An is also investing in many large irrigation projects, contributing to the fight against climate change and rising sea levels such as: The project to repair and upgrade the Northern Irrigation System with a total investment of 5,300 billion VND (JICA loan), the Mo River salinity prevention sluice with 700 billion VND, the Lam Tra canal irrigation system with 174 billion VND, the Nam Viec irrigation system with 150 billion VND...
