From October 13 to 19, 2021, due to the impact of storm No. 8, Nghe An experienced moderate to heavy rain, especially in mountainous districts such as Ky Son, Tuong Duong, and Que Phong. Due to heavy rain combined with steep mountainous terrain, landslides occurred, causing significant damage to traffic infrastructure.
In Ky Son district in 2020 and the first months of 2021, landslides of traffic works continuously occurred. In particular, due to the impact of storm No. 8, prolonged rain caused soil and rock structures to break, causing landslides on negative and positive slopes on many roads. In particular, the most severe were the Chieu Luu - Bao Thang traffic routes in Luu Hoa village; La Ngan, Chieu Luu commune.

Mr. Nguyen Van Long - Deputy Head of the Economic - Infrastructure Department of Ky Son district said: Due to the mountainous area with large slopes, every time the rainy season comes, the traffic infrastructure in the area is always eroded. There are points on the road from Chieu Luu to Bao Thang that were eroded by storms No. 3 and No. 7 in July and September and have not been completely repaired, but then storm No. 8 continued to cause the risk of losing the road. Because the negative slope was not allowed to penetrate deep into the asphalt road, the district had to mobilize emergency machinery to fix it.

Besides, there are landslide locations that have been repaired this year but then have landslides again the following year, especially on the routes from Muong Xen town to Ta Do, Khe Kien or the route from Muong Xen town to Tay Son...
In addition, some national highways passing through the district such as National Highway 7A and National Highway 16 are also frequently subject to landslides, making travel difficult for local people.
