Nghe An: Big explosion at cassava starch processing factory, 4 people seriously injured

(Baonghean.vn)- A large explosion from a cassava starch factory in Nghia Long commune, Nghia Dan district seriously injured four people, one of whom is currently in critical condition.

Accordingly, at around 12 noon on April 4, at the cassava starch processing factory (belonging to Son Long General Service Joint Stock Cooperative) located in Nam Kim hamlet, Nghia Long commune, Nghia Dan district, a large explosion occurred, seriously injuring 4/5 workers in the production team and they were taken to the hospital for emergency treatment.

Residents around the factory area said that at noon they were eating lunch when suddenly they heard a loud explosion that shook their houses. They ran outside and saw smoke and fire coming from the factory production area.

Everyone in the village shouted and ran to put out the fire. Immediately after, the police force of Nghia Dan district and the provincial police arrived to block off the scene and investigate the cause of the fire.

Among the four seriously injured victims taken to the Tay Bac Nghe An General Hospital for emergency treatment, patient Ha Van Hieu (27 years old, Nam Hoa hamlet, Nghia Long commune) was transferred to a higher level hospital due to severe burns.

Patient Vi Khac Nho is being treated at the hospital.

Victim Vi Khac Nho, currently being treated at the Department of Surgery (Northwest Nghe An General Hospital), still in shock, recounted: “At noon, 5 people were working when suddenly we heard a loud, deafening explosion coming from the oil pipe that was drying the flour. We rolled around and called for help. When we woke up, we found ourselves in the hospital with all our hair burnt and severe burns on our faces, backs, and arms.”

According to Mr. Nho, all the victims were seasonal workers, without any insurance?!.

The cause of the fire is currently being investigated by the authorities.
