(Baonghean) - At this time, people in shrimp farming areas in Nghe An are urgently treating the pond environment, continuing to release shrimp for the first crop - the most important crop of the year.

Be cautious about shrimp breeding.

In the first crop this year, Mr. Tran Van Thuong's family in Hamlet 14, Quynh Thanh Commune (Quynh Luu) raised nearly 4 hectares of shrimp (12 ponds). In the increasingly difficult shrimp farming conditions due to environmental pollution and poor quality of the breed, Mr. Thuong and many other households are worried. Therefore, to prepare for the new crop this year, his family decided to invest in building an additional 3,000 m2 water settling pond and a 500 m2 sludge pond to serve the closed farming process, limiting disease.

The family also pays more attention to pond cleaning, dredging mud bottoms, water environment treatment, etc. Mr. Thuong shared: "Up to now, my family has released 1.5 million seeds on an area of 2 hectares, and is preparing to release seeds for the remaining 2 hectares."

People in Mai Hung ward (Hoang Mai town) renovate ponds to prepare for new crop.

Quynh Thanh commune has 129 shrimp farming households with an area of 75 hectares. Currently, the whole commune has stocked 10 hectares, and people are continuing to stock to soon close the farming area.

The first shrimp farming plan of this year in Quynh Luu district includes 465 hectares in the communes of Quynh Minh, Quynh Luong, Quynh Bang, Quynh Thanh, An Hoa, Quynh Doi, Quynh Nghia, Quynh Thuan, Son Hai, etc. So far, people have only been able to plant 20 hectares; In addition, Hoang Mai town also has 380 hectares of first-crop shrimp farming in 7/10 wards and communes, and currently, people in the town have only been able to plant 20 hectares.

Focus on pond hygiene and farming techniques

To have a safer farming season, specialized agencies and Hoang Mai town strengthen the management of shrimp seed quality, stabilize brackish water shrimp farming area, and encourage people to apply scientific and technical advances in livestock production to increase productivity, quality and ensure food safety.

At the same time, it is recommended that farmers choose shrimp seeds with clear origin, good quality, guaranteed size and must take samples for quality inspection before stocking. Farmers need to proactively source seeds by contracting or committing to reputable seed production and supply facilities; Stocking seeds on schedule, density appropriate to the level of intensive farming.

Currently, the whole Quynh Luu district has only been able to raise 20 hectares.

This year, the first shrimp season is from March 1 to May 30. However, the weather in early March is still cold and there is a monsoon, so the area planted in the whole province is still small. According to statistics from the Department of Aquaculture, so far, shrimp farmers in the province have only released nearly 100 hectares out of 1,350 hectares.

Mr. Tran Xuan Hoc, Head of the Aquaculture Sub-Department, said: "This year, the Sub-Department has directed people to extend the time for releasing seeds so that people have time to renovate ponds and treat ponds more carefully. Learning from the experience of previous years, do not release seeds at the same time to avoid local shortages of seeds."

Reality shows that people increasingly pay attention to applying science and technology to production and breeding, especially with shrimp - a very sensitive species, difficult to raise, with high investment costs.
