Nghe An: Many caves with archaeological and scenic value discovered
((Baonghean.vn) - On June 30, the Institute of Archaeology under the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, led by Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Khac Su, reported the results of archaeological surveys in five mountainous districts of Nghe An. Initially, many artifacts and caves of archaeological and scenic value were collected.
In early June 2015, the Institute of Archaeology carried out the task of researching the system of archaeological sites in caves in the mountainous areas of Nghe An province. After 20 days of survey, archaeologists discovered 20 caves in the districts of Anh Son, Con Cuong, Tuong Duong, and Quy Chau.
According to the preliminary report of the Institute of Archaeology, in Tuong Duong district, 1 cave relic, 4 outdoor relics and 1 famous cave were discovered such as: Van - Cua Rao temple relic; Den Hill; Khe Ngau; Tham Cung cave (Shrimp cave), especially at Cua Rao village relic, many stone, bronze, and crude pottery tools were discovered,...

In Con Cuong district, 9 cave relics and 2 outdoor relics, 1 scenic relic were discovered such as: Con Noong cave; Noong Mu cave; Ong Trang cave, Hong Nang cave... At Con Noong cave, archaeologists have collected many pieces of bone, bone and mollusk shells dating back about 10,000 years.

In Anh Son district, 7 cave archaeological sites and 1 scenic site were discovered, including a special discovery of a stone carving with many round concave shapes and human figures dating back to the late Hoa Binh culture in Yen Hoa village, Hoa Son commune and the Voi cave site in Tuong Son commune with many stalactites and stone pillars of beautiful shapes of scenic value.

In Quy Chau district, 4 cave relics and 2 scenic relics were discovered such as: Tham Chang; Co Ngon, Tham Bua, Tham Bong, Ton That, Tham Om.
Through the survey, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Khac Su said that the archaeological potential in Nghe An is very large. The initial survey results show that the system of archaeological relics in Nghe An has a certain position in the process of national historical development and is of great value in terms of local tourism development.

The Institute of Archaeology also recommended that Nghe An province should have a project to investigate the overall archaeological sites in the province, paying special attention to caves, on that basis, build an archaeological map, plan for protection and conduct excavations of some typical sites. At the same time, there is a plan to rank some sites such as: Bo Rock Roof, Dong Truong Cave (Anh Son); Tham Hoi Cave (Con Cuong); Han Co Ngon; Bong Cave, Ton That Cave (Quy Chau).
