Nghe An tightens alcohol concentration checks on all routes
Before, during and after the Lunar New Year, the number of drivers violating alcohol levels tends to increase. Faced with this situation, the provincial traffic police force has been proactive in patrolling, controlling and strictly handling violations of alcohol levels, with the viewpoint of "no forbidden zones, no exceptions".
All violations will be handled.
Early in the afternoon of December 14, we were present with the working group of the Road Traffic Police Team No. 2 (Traffic Police Department of the Provincial Police) at Km 14+300 of National Highway 7, through Bao Thanh Commune, Yen Thanh District, where the working group was performing patrol and control duties. In just over 1 hour, the authorities discovered and recorded 2 cases of alcohol concentration violations, and temporarily detained the vehicles according to regulations.

At 1:20 p.m. the same day, the working group stopped the motorbike with license plate 37K1-892xx driven by Mr. NVT (born in 1981, residing in Dien Chau district). Upon inspection, Mr. T.'s alcohol concentration was 0.23 mg/liter of breath. Mr. T. explained that this afternoon, the homeowner invited the construction workers to drink to finish the construction, and he only drank "2 cups", not expecting it to exceed the permitted threshold. With a fine of 2.5 million VND and his driver's license revoked for 11 months, Mr. T. sadly shared: "This Tet, I don't have a vehicle to travel."
Immediately after that, the working group signaled to stop the car with license plate 38A-055xx, and at the same time asked the driver to conduct an alcohol concentration test according to regulations. The car driver, Mr. TVD, did not cooperate but used his phone to call his relatives, begging the staff in the working group to answer the phone. However, with determination, the staff in the working group did not accept the call. Finally, Mr. D. was forced to comply with the test, and the result showed that the alcohol concentration was 0.25 mg/liter of breath.
According to the working group, most drivers agree with the alcohol testing, because they are well aware that allowing people who have been drinking to drive will endanger themselves and others. However, there are still a few people who try to argue, justify their violations, and even call for intervention. However, with the viewpoint of "no forbidden zones, no exceptions", the force is determined to handle all violations in accordance with the law.

In fact, the habit of drinking and still driving because you think you are not drunk is the main cause of many serious traffic accidents.
According to a doctor at the Emergency Department of Nghe An General Hospital, although there are no specific statistics, the number of emergency cases related to traffic accidents in the last months of the year tends to increase, especially traffic accidents caused by alcohol. This includes not only cases of accidents but also cases of accidents caused by drivers who have consumed alcohol.
This doctor added that research by the World Health Organization shows that alcohol and beer reduce the body's reaction speed by 10-30%, at the same time, reduce the ability to coordinate body parts, reduce the ability to recognize objects from a distance and especially reduce night vision by up to 25%.
Ms. NTL, a relative of Mr. TVH, who is currently being treated at the Intensive Care Unit, Nghe An General Hospital, said that although the accident happened nearly half a month ago, Mr. H. still cannot leave the hospital. The cause of the accident was determined to be that after drinking alcohol, Mr. H. collided with a car traveling on Nguyen Truong To Street, Vinh City on his way home, resulting in many injuries. Ms. L. said: "Fortunately, both vehicles were not traveling at too high a speed, otherwise the consequences could have been unpredictable."
Tight control on all routes
According to statistics from the authorities, 15% of serious traffic accidents occur due to drivers using alcohol, leading to loss of concentration, violating traffic laws such as driving on the wrong side of the road, not controlling speed, lack of attention, lack of observation or illegal overtaking.
Therefore, in the patrol and control plan before, during and after Tet, the Traffic Police force, under the direction of the Ministry of Public Security, the Provincial People's Committee and most recently the Provincial Police Director at the Launch Ceremony to attack and suppress crimes; prevent and combat violations of fireworks; ensure traffic safety and order and prevent and fight fires before, during and after the Lunar New Year 2025, will continue to maintain regular deployments.

The goal is not only to ensure traffic safety, help people enjoy the Spring Festival, but also to strictly handle cases of alcohol concentration violations, with the determination that no one will be allowed to violate without being punished.
The traffic police force will continue to mobilize maximum forces and means, at the same time, effectively use professional technical equipment to organize patrols, control, detect and strictly handle violations, especially violations related to alcohol concentration when driving vehicles, which is the direct cause of accidents.
Traffic police teams and stations will closely coordinate with local police to increase propaganda and regularly inspect and handle violations on national and provincial highways, especially at noon, evening, on holidays and on roads with high traffic density.
In addition, the traffic police of districts, cities and towns will simultaneously deploy working groups to inspect and handle alcohol concentration violations and other violations on all routes under their management, ensuring quick and safe inspections without causing inconvenience to traffic participants.Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Nam Hong - Deputy Head of Traffic Police Department (Nghe An Provincial Police)
For cadres, workers and civil servants who violate alcohol concentration, in addition to handling according to the provisions of the law, the traffic police force will send a notice to the violator's work unit to conduct a review and handle according to the regulations of the Party and the agency, in accordance with the direction in Directive 23-CT/TW dated May 25, 2023 of the Secretariat on strengthening the Party's leadership in ensuring traffic order and safety in the new situation, Directive No. 10/CT-TTg of the Prime Minister on ensuring road traffic order and safety, as well as Document No. 7995/UBND-NC dated September 21, 2023 of the People's Committee of Nghe An province on strengthening compliance with the law to ensure traffic order and safety for cadres, party members, civil servants and public employees.
