Nghe An: Training on implementing child drowning prevention project
(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of July 29, the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs held a conference to deploy and train the project on child drowning prevention in Nghe An province in 2021. From 2019 to April 30, 2021, the whole province had 119 cases of children drowning, 130 children died due to drowning. In that situation, in 2021, Nghe An selected 5 communes of 2 districts, Yen Thanh and Dien Chau, where there are many ponds, lakes, rivers, dams, sea dykes, and the annual rate of children dying from drowning is relatively high, to implement the project. Thereby, it aims to deploy effective intervention plans and contribute to reducing deaths due to drowning in children in the province.

According to the project criteria: 5 communes in 2 districts implementing the project must have 1,000 children of primary and secondary school age equipped with knowledge of safety in the water environment; At least 580 children from 6 to under 15 years old learn safe swimming; Must improve water safety skills for children from 6 to 15 years old...

At the conference, delegates representing the project beneficiaries expressed their opinions on the implementation in the context of the pandemic. Accordingly, the conference also agreed that the beneficiary localities will implement the project effectively, on schedule, but must ensure epidemic prevention work.
At the conference, the host unit also requested that departments, branches and districts at all levels need to direct and guide the Coordination Group to implement the project at the commune level, and carry out the activities according to the approved plan.
