Nghe An: Focusing on overcoming hundreds of hectares of rice that have fallen due to heavy rain

Heavy rain on the afternoon of April 26 caused many areas of spring rice in Nghe An to collapse.

Mrs. Nguyen Thi Lan in the communeHung Hoa(Vinh City) sighed: "My family has 4 sao of spring rice, which will be harvested in about a month. However, the rain and strong winds yesterday afternoon caused nearly 2 sao to fall, and the yield will definitely decrease. Therefore, I am focusing on draining the water to avoid the rice being flooded for too long, causing heavy damage...".

Not only Ms. Lan but also hundreds of households in Hung Hoa commune (Vinh city) feel that way. According to statistics, heavy rain has caused 150 hectares of spring rice in the whole city to collapse, of which Hung Hoa commune accounts for about half of the area, with 88 hectares.

Mr. Tran Cao Cuong - Vice Chairman of Hung Hoa Commune People's Committee said: "Currently, the locality is focusing on directing people to drain water and rebuild the fallen rice fields. However, in some areas, there are strong whirlwinds and deep whirlwinds, so the ability to recover is low...".

DistrictThanh Chuongis the locality that suffered the most damage in the heavy rain on the afternoon of April 26. According to statistics, the whole district had 511 hectares of rice damaged, of which 389 hectares of rice were damaged by over 70%. The total estimated damage was 1.35 billion VND.

Mr. Tran Phi Hung - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Thanh Chuong district said: "For areas that can be restored, we direct the communes to call on people to quickly erect trees,drainageFor areas of early-ripening rice that have fallen over and cannot be restored, early harvesting can be done to minimize damage. The difficulty is that for fallen rice, harvesting by machine is impossible and farmers have to harvest by hand, so the time will be longer...".

Not only Thanh Chuong district, Vinh city but also other localities such as Yen Thanh, Dien Chau, Nghi Loc... also had many rice fields collapsed after the rain on the afternoon of April 26.
