Nghe An: 37 more students poisoned by eating parasol fruit
(Baonghean.vn)- On April 21, 37 6th and 7th grade students in Nghe An ate parasol fruit and had symptoms such as nausea and dizziness and had to be hospitalized.

The incident happened on the evening of April 21, 2017 at Quy Chau Ethnic Boarding School - Secondary School, Quy Chau district, Nghe An province.

At that time, the Emergency Department of Quy Chau Medical Center received and treated 37 students in grades 6 and 7 with symptoms of vomiting, headache, and diarrhea.
At the hospital, doctors and nurses directly examined, administered IV fluids, and monitored the children. By 3:00 a.m. on April 22, 32 children had regained consciousness and were in stable health, while 5 children were still waiting for monitoring. On the morning of April 23, all children were discharged from the hospital and returned to school.

It is known that in the afternoon of the same day, the children ate the seeds of the parasol tree in the school. After eating the parasol seeds, in the evening, the children had symptoms of nausea, stomachache, and diarrhea.
Doctor Vi Van Thang, Deputy Director of Quy Chau District Medical Center, said that the seeds of the Parasol tree are oily and delicious, but eating these seeds can cause headaches, dizziness, nausea, and diarrhea; in severe cases, bleeding in the digestive tract and esophagus; these seeds cannot be eaten.
This is the second case of poisoning from corn kernels in the past week in Nghe An province. Previously, 50 students in Cua Lo town were also hospitalized after eating corn kernels.
