Nghe An: Summary of 5 years of "cleaner production strategy"

(Baonghean) –This morning, December 9, in Vinh City, the Department of Industry and Trade organized a summary of 5 years of implementing the "Cleaner Production Program and building a cleaner production strategy in industry in Nghe An province".

Attending were Dr. Dang Tung - Former Director of Science and Technology Department, Director of the ComponentCleaner Production in Industry (CPI), leaders of the Departments of Industry and Trade, Science and Technology, Natural Resources and Environment, specialized officials of the industry and trade sector of districts, towns and industrial production enterprises in the province.

ComponentsCleaner Production in Industry (CPI) implemented by the Ministry of Industry and Trade is one of the five components of the Vietnam Environment Development Cooperation Program.Male– Denmark 2006 – 2011. Objective: to make the Vietnamese business community aware that natural resources are limited, thereby exploiting them reasonably and using them effectively for economic development, while minimizing the impact of waste that pollutes the environment.

Nghe An is one of 5 provinces (Phu Tho, Thai Nguyen, Nghe An, Quang Nam).Male, Ben Tre) was selected as the implementation site of the Component.

With the support of the CPI Component, since 2006, the Center for Industrial Promotion and Industrial Development Consulting (Nghe An Department of Industry and Trade) has begun implementing the Program by the following measures: organizing 24 training courses, workshops for industrial production enterprise owners, craft villages, management staff in the field of industrial production and environment; coordinating with press agencies to produce 08 short films broadcast on television and 30 articles in local newspapers, printing more than 700 CDs of propaganda films on cleaner production (CP) in many fields such as: construction, building materials, white stone, rattan, bamboo, agricultural processing, seafood, etc.

The conference affirmed that many enterprises have become aware of cleaner production in industry, conscious of saving fuel, raw materials and limiting the amount of wastewater and toxic waste released into the environment. There have been 10 enterprises participating in the Cleaner Production Demonstration Project in the province, including: Song Lam Paper Joint Stock Company, Nghe An Roofing Sheet Factory, Kim Anh Production and Trading Company Limited, Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company, Song Lam Sugarcane Joint Stock Company, Yen Thanh Cassava Factory, Intimex Thanh Chuong Factory, Duc Phong Company Limited, Trung Do Granite Factory, Nghe An Salt and Trading Joint Stock Company. Enterprises participating in the Cleaner Production Demonstration Project are provided with technical and financial advice by the CPI Component to help improve productivity and production efficiency, contributing to reducing the level of pollution to the environment. The total cost of the Component's support for the above 10 enterprises is 24 billion VND.

However, many delegates also pointed out the remaining problems: the number of enterprises aware of and participating in the program is not much, the innovation of equipment is still limited, many enterprises still produce on outdated technology lines, making it difficult to reduce toxic waste into the environment. In addition to measures to help enterprises in production to innovate equipment for cleaner production, the province needs to review and strictly manage the investment in advanced technology equipment for cleaner production for new industrial projects.
