Nghe An: Implementing phase 2 open heart surgery for children

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of October 17, in Vinh city, Hanoi Heart Hospital organized a transfer of open heart surgery and cardiovascular intervention techniques to Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital. Accordingly, Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital officially entered phase 2 of open heart surgery and cardiovascular intervention for children.

Witnessing this activity was Dr. Bui Dinh Long, member of the Provincial Party Committee, Director of Nghe An Department of Health.

Doctors performed cardiovascular intervention and open heart surgery on 7 patients.

Through investigation and survey by the Ministry of Health, it is shown that the rate of children with congenital heart disease accounts for nearly 1% of the number of children born each year. The rate of children dying from congenital heart disease accounts for 20 - 30% if not intervened and treated. In Nghe An, on average, each year, nearly 100 children with congenital heart disease must be transferred to the Central level.

Faced with this situation, the Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital determined to implement an interventional and open heart surgery program at the hospital. Since the beginning of 2013, Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital has sent 30 doctors and nurses to study vascular interventional techniques and cardiac surgery at the Hanoi Heart Hospital.

At the handover ceremony, Dr. Bui Dinh Long, member of the Provincial Party Committee and Director of Nghe An Department of Health, thanked Hanoi Heart Hospital for its support and highly appreciated the preparation of conditions for performing interventional techniques and open heart surgery of the Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital.

Along with investing in facilities and equipment to meet technical requirements; under the guidance and assistance of Hanoi Heart Hospital, the Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital conducts open heart surgery, helping many children regain health.

Entering phase 2, Hanoi Heart Hospital has surveyed the preparation of Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital and continues to work with the hospital's doctors and nurses to perform open heart surgery and cardiovascular intervention techniques. In the immediate future, Hanoi Heart Hospital will work with the doctors and nurses of the Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital to perform the techniques until Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital has fully mastered these advanced techniques.
