Many potential risks

The 2023 spring crop is forecasted to be produced under difficult conditions. Cold air is likely to come early, and severe cold may coincide with the time of seedling emergence and sowing, which will affect production progress and potentially cause damage due to the weather.

Meanwhile, the prices of fertilizers and pesticides remain high while agricultural product prices remain unstable, which will affect farmers' ability to invest in production. The progress of winter crop planting this year is slow due to storms and rains, affecting the spring crop production season.

The province's food output target for 2023 is about 1.2 million tons; of which the 2023 spring crop must strive to reach 695,500 tons of food. Accordingly, the whole province strives to plant 91,000 hectares of rice, 19,300 hectares of corn, 9,500 hectares of peanuts, 12,500 hectares of vegetables of all kinds...

Enhance safe and efficient production

Speaking at the conference, comrade Nguyen Van De stated: Based on the assessment and forecast of difficulties as well as advantages, localities need to focus on organizing drastic direction to ensure spring crop production achieves the highest results in terms of area, productivity and output.

The authorities must strengthen the monitoring of compliance with the crop calendar for each group of varieties; arrange the planting time so that the rice plants can bloom from April 20 to April 30, avoiding late-season cold.

Propaganda, warning and reporting on crop schedules, severe cold, frost damage, plant pests and applying safe production processes must be taken seriously; localities need to regularly coordinate closely with mass media agencies to report and disseminate information promptly so that farmers know, understand and implement, producing safely and effectively.

With the forecast of early cold, severe cold and damaging cold, it is necessary to focus on directing 100% of the rice seedling area to be covered with nylon to protect against cold, rats and at the same time prevent white-backed planthoppers from entering and transmitting black-striped dwarf disease; minimize direct sowing which makes rice susceptible to frostbite.

In particular, to increase production value, it is necessary to increase the application of VietGAP and organic food safety production processes; apply high technology and science and technology to gradually build brands and trace the origin of products to increase the value of agricultural products in the province. Promote linkages in production and consumption of agricultural products on e-commerce platforms to stabilize and promote production and consumption.
