Nghe An deploys collection of DNA samples from relatives of unidentified martyrs
On the morning of March 20, Nghe An Provincial Police held a conference to deploy the collection of DNA samples for relatives of unidentified martyrs in the province.
Currently, there are still about 500,000 unidentified martyrs nationwide, of which 200,000 remains have not been collected and 300,000 remains have been buried but lack information. In Nghe An alone, nearly 22,000 martyrs have still not been identified.

To address this issue, the Ministry of Public Security is building an identification database that integrates DNA information and has proposed that the Government conduct DNA analysis of martyrs’ relatives. This is an important step forward to help increase the effectiveness of searching for and verifying martyrs’ identities.

Pursuant to Plan No. 356 dated July 17, 2024 of the Ministry of Public Security and Plan No. 644 dated August 16, 2024 of the Provincial People's Committee,Nghe An PoliceCoordinated with relevant units to survey and collect information on martyrs' graves and relatives to collect DNA samples.
After preparation, from March 20 to March 22, 2025, Nghe An Provincial Police presided over and coordinated with the Department of Administrative Police for Social Order and testing units to collect DNA samples at 5 locations in the province.

At the sample collection point at the Provincial Police Hall - where the conference was held, 123 martyrs' relatives had their samples taken, including 31 martyrs' mothers and 1 Vietnamese Heroic Mother.

1. Nghe An Provincial Police Hall: For relatives of martyrs residing in Vinh City, Nghi Loc, Hung Nguyen, Nam Dan.
2. ID card collection station at Cau Giat Town Police (Quynh Luu): Serves relatives in Hoang Mai, Dien Chau, Yen Thanh, and Quynh Luu towns.
3. ID card collection station at Nghia Dan Town Police: For relatives of martyrs in Thai Hoa Town, Nghia Dan, Quy Hop, Quy Chau, Que Phong.
4. ID card collection station at Do Luong Town Police: For relatives of martyrs in Thanh Chuong, Tan Ky, Do Luong, Anh Son.
5. ID card collection station at Tra Lan Town Police (Con Cuong): For relatives in Con Cuong, Tuong Duong, Ky Son.
Speaking at the conference, Colonel Tran Ngoc Tuan - Deputy Director of the Provincial Police Department said that in the coming time, Nghe An will continue to deploy more DNA sample collection campaigns for relatives of martyrs. The Provincial Police Department hopes to continue receiving the attention and direction of the Provincial People's Committee and the coordination of units and localities to effectively implement the program.

On this occasion, leaders of the Provincial Police and the Department of Administrative Management of Social Order presented gifts to the martyrs' mothers participating in the program.
