Nghe An eliminates a group of scammers selling 'magic charms', earning more than 86 billion VND
Nguyen Van Kien and his associates sold various “charms” on social media at exorbitant prices. Over the course of six years, they sold “charms” to thousands of people across the country, earning a total profit of more than VND86 billion.
Thai Hoa town police (Nghe An) have just successfully broken up a case and eliminated a gang of drug traffickers.fraud and appropriation of propertyover the Internet in the form of selling "charms", arrested 4 subjects including: Nguyen Van Kien (born in 1987), Le Thi Lan (born in 1985) - Kien's wife, both residing in Nghia My commune, Thai Hoa town; Vy Thi Huong (born in 1963) - Kien's mother-in-law, residing in Chau Hong commune, Quy Hop district and Le Dinh Quy (born in 1991), residing in Le Loi ward, Vinh city.

Previously, through the work of grasping the situation, Thai Hoa town police discovered a group specializing in fraud and appropriation of assets on the internet by selling “magic charms”. The leader was Nguyen Van Kien with unclear economic manifestations.
With the consent of the leaders of the Provincial Police Department of Investigation, the investigation agency was directed to quickly establish a project and mobilize maximum forces to fight and eradicate the above-mentioned group of people specializing in fraud and property appropriation.

Using synchronous professional measures, when there was sufficient evidence, the Task Force decided to crack the case. Accordingly, on May 19, 2024, Thai Hoa Town Police deployed forces, simultaneously arrested and searched 3 locations including: Thai Hoa Town, Quy Hop and Vinh City, arrested 3 subjects including: Nguyen Van Kien, Vy Thi Huong and Le Dinh Quy - post office staff, Viettel Post delivery point in Cua Lo Town for fraud and appropriation of property, confiscated 1 laptop, 10 mobile phones, "charms", items for making "charms" and books written in ethnic languages...
At the investigation agency, the subjects confessed to using many phone numbers and registering on many social networking platforms (Telegram, Facebook, Zalo) to sell various types of "charms", such as: "charms to keep lovers", "charms to keep wives, keep husbands", "hate charms", "obedience charms", "business charms"... with prices ranging from 9,900,000 VND to 10,900,000 VND/1 "charm". After someone connected, the subjects would make "charms" from mugwort, ginger, salt, herbal leaves... and send them to the victims.

During the investigation, the police clarified that in addition to the three subjects above, Le Thi Lan also participated in the criminal activities. At the time of arrest, Le Thi Lan was abroad. Through professional measures and persuasion through relatives and family, on June 3, 2024, Le Thi Lan returned to Vietnam, surrendered to Thai Hoa Town Police and reported all her crimes.
Through investigation documents, it was initially determined that from 2018 to present, the subjects have sold "charms" to thousands of people across the country, with a total profit of more than 86 billion VND.
The case is currently being investigated and expanded.
Thai Hoa town police informed that anyone who is a victim of the above incident should go to the nearest police station to report for coordination and resolution.
