Nghe An grows 3,000 hectares of biomass corn
(Baonghean.vn) - Despite the unfavorable weather, Nghe An farmers have so far planted more than 18,000 hectares of corn, including 3,000 hectares of biomass corn, as animal feed.

Thanh Chuong district has planted the most corn this winter crop, 2,800 hectares of which are biomass corn (87 hectares of corn grown on 2-rice land). Mr. Tran Phi Hung - Head of the district's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said: The district People's Committee has contacted farms and cattle breeding enterprises to introduce them to the communes to agree on prices and methods of purchasing corn for farmers. Currently, most of the corn area is growing at the 4-5 leaf stage, and is expected to be harvested in about 1 month.
This winter crop, Anh Son district plans to plant 3,500 hectares of corn and various vegetables. So far, farmers have planted over 200 hectares of corn, mainly biomass corn. The district People's Committee has also proactively contacted beef and dairy cattle raising enterprises in and outside the province to have a plan to purchase corn for farmers to ensure prices and seasonality.

According to the report of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, up to now the whole province has been able to plant18,368.5 ha/ Plan 27,000 ha corn (reached 68.03%).Of which, 3,000 hectares of corn for animal feed include corn on two-rice and converted land, and corn on riverbank alluvial land. In addition, people1,587.3 hectares of peanuts were planted/1,300 hectares of plan (122.1%) and more9,000 ha / Plan 12,000 ha of various vegetables (reaching 75.07%).
It is estimated that this winter crop, Nghe An will supply nearly 7 thousand tons of corn biomass as animal feed for beef and dairy cattle farming enterprises.
