(Baonghean.vn) - Recently, the Provincial Ethnic Committee implemented a pilot project on growing hawthorn trees, in which 3,000 hawthorn seedlings were planted in some mountainous areas.

Mong people pick wild apples from the forest and sell them in Muong Xen Town, Ky Son District.

The hawthorn tree usually grows on high mountains with low temperatures. Hawthorn fruit has many effects on human health, so when the hawthorn fruit harvest season comes, the Mong people in Ky Son, Tuong Duong, and Que Phong go to the forest to pick the fruit and sell it at quite high prices.

In order to develop hawthorn trees and increase income for people, in 2015, the Provincial Ethnic Committee implemented a pilot project on growing hawthorn trees in some mountainous areas.

Accordingly, over 3,000 hawthorn seedlings have been planted at the model registration locations: Youth Volunteer Team 8, Youth Volunteer Team 10, Pieng Coc Village, Mai Son Commune (Tuong Duong), Cha Lang Village, Huu Khuong Commune (Tuong Duong), Pha Khom Village, Tri Le Commune (Que Phong). The project was invested with 140 million VND, and people were instructed on how to plant, care for, and protect the trees.

To date, the survival rate of trees is over 90%.
