Nghe An: Poverty rate in mountainous ethnic minority areas is still 16.54%

(Baonghean.vn) – This is the information announced at the meeting with retired ethnic minority leaders organized by the Provincial People's Committee on the afternoon of October 27.

Attending the conference were comrade Nguyen Huu Cau - Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Director of the Provincial Police Department; members of the Provincial Party Committee: Hoang Viet Duong - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Luong Thanh Hai - Head of the Provincial Ethnic Minorities Committee and 56 delegates.

Provincial leaders and many former ethnic minority leaders attended the conference.

At the Conference, a summary report on the socio-economic, defense and security situation of the province in the first 10 months of 2015, information on the development of ethnic minority and mountainous areas of the province and some main features of the 18th Provincial Party Congress, term 2015-2020 was heard. Accordingly, the growth rate of total product in the province is estimated at 6.95%, higher than the same period in 2014. Regarding new rural construction, up to now, the whole province has 61 communes meeting the standards.

Regarding investment promotion, by mid-October 2015, the province had granted new and adjusted investment certificates for 137 projects with a total capital of over 40,284 billion VND. Budget revenue for 10 months is estimated at 6,711 billion VND. The poverty rate is expected to be 7.5% by the end of 2015. Cultural and social sectors continue to develop; national defense and security are stable and maintained.

Comrade Hoang Viet Duong - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee briefly presented some contents on the province's socio-economic situation and the results of the 18th Provincial Party Congress.

In particular, the ethnic minority and mountainous areas in the province continue to have many positive changes. The people's lives continue to improve, the poverty rate in the whole region at the end of 2015 is estimated at 16.54%, down 3.32% compared to 2014. In the first 9 months of 2015, this area has 3 communes meeting the new rural standards, typically Thach Giam commune, Tuong Duong district is the first 30a commune in the country to meet the new rural standards. The political system of ethnic minority and mountainous areas continues to be built and consolidated quite firmly, basically meeting the requirements and tasks.

Comrade Luong Thanh Hai - Head of the Provincial Ethnic Committee presented a summary of the ethnic work situation and implementation of ethnic policies in Nghe An province.

However, the ethnic minority and mountainous areas of Nghe An still have difficult socio-economic conditions, a high rate of poor households, and low quality of population and human resources. The level of grassroots cadres compared to requirements is still inadequate; the capacity to manage, direct and organize implementation has not met the requirements of tasks in the new situation, especially at the grassroots level.

Comrade Vi Hai Thanh - former Secretary of Ky Son District Party Committee expressed his joy at the investment in infrastructure construction in mountainous districts.

The conference also heard some opinions contributed to socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security; accelerating poverty reduction in ethnic minority and mountainous areas of the province from delegates such as: personnel work, preserving cultural identity, raising awareness for the people...

Concluding the conference, on behalf of the provincial leaders, comrade Hoang Viet Duong - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee accepted the valuable contributions of former leaders of ethnic minorities; at the same time, expressed the determination to develop Nghe An province, effectively implementing Resolution 26 of the Politburo on the direction and tasks of developing Nghe An province until 2020 and the Resolution of the 18th Provincial Party Congress, term 2015 - 2020.
