Nghe An: Commune buys rat tails for 2,000 VND, every household goes to the fields to kill rats
(Baonghean.vn) - Faced with the problem of rats destroying large areas of rice and crops, localities in Nghe An province have simultaneously launched a campaign to exterminate rats. Notably, some localities have purchased rats for 2,000 VND/tail, encouraging people to enthusiastically respond to the movement to exterminate rats to protect crops.
These days, farmers in Dien Thai commune (Dien Chau) are actively dealing with the problem of rats destroying spring rice crops. In the commune's fields, despite being surrounded by plastic cabinets, rats still come in and bite and destroy them very strongly.

Ms. Dinh Thi Trang, an agricultural officer of Dien Thai commune, said: The commune is directing hamlets to simultaneously launch a large-scale rat extermination campaign. In the past 4 peak days, the entire commune has exterminated over 12,000 rats, of which the number of tails returned was over 9,000.
It is known that in Dien Thai commune, after households catch rats, they will cut off their tails and the commune will buy each tail for 2,000 VND. This is a way to encourage people to actively kill rats. There is a rat extermination group of 5 people who catch an average of 500 rats every night in the fields, and hand over the tails to earn millions of VND.

Currently, all localities in Dien Chau district have simultaneously launched a campaign to exterminate rats. Mr. Le The Hieu - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dien Chau district said: The district has a specific plan for localities to effectively exterminate rats. From February 15 to 25, localities will focus on clearing bushes, field edges and manually setting rat traps. From February 26 to March 1, localities will be provided with rat bait to exterminate rats. For rat extermination by rat traps, communes will be proactive in funding, the district will support all costs to buy rat bait, and distribute it to communes.
In Nam Dan district, the rat extermination movement is also spreading, besides the participation of households, there is also a youth union force. During the peak period of rat extermination to protect the Spring crop, the whole district caught 49,855 rats. Communes have allocated funds to buy nearly 13,000 packets of rat poison. Some communes have had good rat extermination results such as Nam Kim, Nam Anh...

Mr. Chu Anh Hung - Head of the Plant Protection Station of Nam Dan district said: Since the district's directive, the communes have mobilized the entire political system to focus on rat extermination. The communes still have a mechanism to purchase rat tails and provide financial support to farmers, however, depending on the conditions of each commune, the level of support is different.
In other districts such as Nghi Loc, Hung Nguyen, Quynh Luu... people are also being mobilized to exterminate rats with encouraging results. Thus, in this simultaneous campaign, tens of thousands of rats were exterminated in the province, contributing significantly to the protection of spring rice and crops...
