During the two resistance wars against France and the US, thousands of Nghi Huong's children enlisted in the army. Even in their homeland, history has recorded years of struggling with the waves, rain of bombs and bullets from the enemy, but the people of Nghi Huong were always ready to fight and sacrifice their lives and property to transport tens of thousands of tons of goods from the coast to the mainland.
The war ended, 135 Nghi Huong's children heroically sacrificed, remaining forever on the battlefields, 114 wounded comrades, 339 civilians died, 196 people were injured and many houses, warehouses and infrastructure were destroyed. Suppressing the pain and loss, the Party Committee and people of Nghi Huong immediately started to overcome the consequences of the war, competing to develop the socio-economy. In particular, since the establishment of Cua Lo town, Nghi Huong has promoted its potential and strengths to become a rich ward of the town. Currently, the average income of each Nghi Huong resident is 36 million VND/year, an increase of 18 times compared to 1994, the poverty rate is only 2.84%.
