Ms. Nguyen Thi Hanh in Hamlet 6 - one of the households with the largest vegetable growing area in the commune, said: This winter crop, her family grew 2.5 sao of sweet cabbage. During the fertilization process, her family followed food safety and hygiene procedures, added straw and mainly used manure. The family's harvested vegetables were purchased by traders at the field, so there was no need to worry about output. With a purchase price of 7,000 VND/kg, on average, 1 sao of sweet cabbage brought a profit of 4-5 million VND. This crop, her family earned approximately 12 million VND within 1 month.
According to vegetable growers in Nghi Thuan, at the beginning of the winter season, realizing that the demand for vegetables is increasing, people grow vegetables in a safe and hygienic way, so this year's sweet cabbage is bought a lot by traders and people in neighboring communes. Farmers are very excited because in the time of growing one rice crop, they can now grow up to 3 vegetable crops, with a yield 7 times higher than growing rice.

Currently, the entire Nghi Thuan commune produces 80 hectares, mainly growing high-yield mustard greens suitable for clay fields without a proactive water source. Especially during the production process, farmers also cover the beds with straw to retain moisture and prevent erosion, helping the plants grow quickly. In addition, using this method also reduces investment costs, protects against heat and cold, and is also a source of organic fertilizer for plant growth. Thanks to that, the yield of mustard greens reaches 7 quintals/sao (equivalent to 5 million VND/sao).
The economic efficiency of sweet cabbage opens up a new direction for Nghi Thuan people, overcoming difficulties due to complex farming terrain. The People's Committee of the commune encourages the expansion of vegetable growing areas, while promoting the transfer of science and technology for farmers to apply, improving the quality and yield of crops.
