Nghi Loc planted 4,600 hectares of early winter crop
(Baonghean.vn) – As one of the districts severely affected by drought, Nghi Loc has about 2,000 hectares of unproductive area in this year’s Summer-Autumn crop. Therefore, at this time, Nghi Loc has implemented the Autumn-Winter crop production; it is one of the districts to implement the Winter crop the earliest in the province.
The implementation of autumn-winter crop production on limited areas aims to limit the situation of sowing summer-autumn rice on fertile land and leaving two-rice land fallow.
Taking advantage of favorable weather (with rain), on some severely drought-stricken lands, Nghi Loc farmers have implemented a model of propagating purebred L14 peanuts, with an area of nearly 28 hectares, in the communes of Nghi Trung, Nghi Thach, Nghi Long, Nghi Van.

This year, the area of red corn seeds in the district has nearly doubled the area of corn grown in the winter crop last year; concentrated in the communes of Nghi Lam, Nghi Van, and Nghi Kieu.
This year, in addition to the province's support mechanism, Nghi Loc district also supports farmers to overcome the consequences of drought, having to convert the uncultivated Summer-Autumn-Spring rice area to grow corn (for seeds) in the Winter crop at the rate of 30,000 VND/kg. At the same time, the district also supports 50% of the price of L14 purebred peanuts produced in the Winter crop and plastic covers for Fall-Winter peanut beds at the rate of 10,000 VND/kg of plastic.
