Nghi Loc: Mass deaths of clams, damage of nearly 2 billion VND

(Baonghean.vn) -Nghi Thiet (Nghi Loc) currently has nearly 11 hectares of commercial clams. As of August 12, about 100 tons of commercial clams of local people died, causing damage of nearly 2 billion VND.

It is known that this is the second time in 2015 that Nghi Thiet commune's clam area has died, with total damage reaching over 5 billion VND. After receiving information about the death of commercial clams, Nghi Loc District People's Committee directed the District Veterinary Station and the Commune People's Committee to go to households raising clams that died to take samples of soil, water, and clam shells for inspection and testing.

Currently, the locality and clam farmers are waiting for the authorities to assess and announce the cause of the mass clam deaths. For now, the People's Committee of Nghi Thiet commune is directing people to focus on overcoming the consequences, clearing the number of dead clams out of the farming area; focusing on monitoring the remaining clam area. At the same time, assigning hamlets to compile a list to propose to superiors to have policies to support clam farmers who have suffered losses./.
