Nghi My (Nghi Loc): The driving force behind a poor commune.
(Baonghean) - Creating consensus in implementing policies and proposing effective solutions to meet criteria have been valuable experiences for Nghi My in the process of building new rural areas. This is a great effort that has enabled Nghi My to achieve the new rural area goal on schedule, having been selected by Nghi Loc district as a pilot area for new rural area construction since 2012.
Rising from unity
Before the New Rural Development program, Nghi My was just a poor commune, relying solely on agriculture, with many people facing hardships and inadequate infrastructure. However, after 5 years of implementing the program, this rural area has undergone a dramatic transformation. Many new and modern buildings have been constructed, and the muddy dirt roads of the past have been replaced with concrete and asphalt roads.

These days, Mr. Ngo Tri Dien in Hamlet 6, Nghi My, like many other residents of the commune, cannot hide his joy as the locality has been recognized as a new-style rural commune. Mr. Dien shared: “Now over 80 years old, I am proud to witness the changes in my homeland. I see the dynamism and boldness of the local leadership team, and the consensus and unity of the people have helped Nghi My achieve such a breakthrough.”
Located in the western part of Nghi Loc district, Nghi My commune is a semi-mountainous area with a population of 4,676 people distributed across 13 hamlets. To achieve the target of 2015, after being selected by Nghi Loc district as a pilot area for new rural development in 2012, the Party Committee and government of Nghi My commune focused on propaganda and mobilization efforts among the people.
From publicly displaying planning maps to organizing dozens of meetings to disseminate information to every household about the policy of building new rural areas, in a short time, the mass movement to participate in building new rural areas spread throughout the entire commune and received the support and participation of the people.
For example, the movement to donate land for rural road construction has received widespread support from the people. Over 30 households in the commune have voluntarily donated land to rebuild their structures, contributing tens of thousands of man-days of labor and tens of billions of dong. Notable examples in this movement include Mr. Hoang Trung Luong in Hamlet 6, who donated 70 meters of embankment, and Mr. Hoang Trung Duc in Hamlet 4, who donated 100 meters.2boundary wall...
With the attention of all levels and sectors, the support of units and businesses, combined with the mobilization of internal resources from the people, Nghi My has effectively integrated programs and projects associated with the task of building new rural areas. To date, Nghi My has invested in infrastructure with a total expenditure of over 150 billion VND, of which the people contributed nearly 69 billion VND.

One of Nghi My's strengths is its ability to secure support and contributions from its people living away from home. From the cultural center in Hamlet 10, valued at over 500 million VND, to the commune's welcome gate, all are the result of the generosity of successful Nghi My entrepreneurs who have contributed to their hometown.
Sustainability through economic development
Recognizing that building a sustainable new rural area requires improving people's lives, Nghi My has had many concerns about local economic development.

Alongside this, they have developed livestock farming in the form of farms and family farms.
Taking advantage of having two roads running through the commune, namely Provincial Road 534 and Inter-district Road 535, Nghi My also actively focuses on creating favorable conditions to attract investment and promote the development of auxiliary industries and service systems in the area.

The commune has 4 businesses and 214 households engaged in business and services operating effectively. As a result, the employment rate in the commune has reached 98%, the average per capita income is 28.3 million VND/year, and the poverty rate has decreased to 4.7%. Improve the quality of the criteria.
Thanks to continuous efforts over the past five years, the Party Committee of Nghi My commune has consistently achieved the status of being clean and strong, and all mass organizations have been rated by the district as having excellently completed their tasks. With the decisive leadership of the Party Committee and the government from the commune to the hamlets, and the consensus of the people, Nghi My commune has now achieved 19 out of 19 criteria for building a New Rural Area.
Mr. Hoang Duc Tri, Chairman of the People's Committee of Nghi My commune, shared: "To gradually improve the quality of the criteria to a higher and more sustainable level, the Party Committee, government, and people of Nghi My commune continue to identify the implementation of the national target program for building new rural areas as a key task of a long-term, regular, and continuous nature, requiring even more decisive and synchronized involvement from the entire political system of the commune and the joint efforts of the majority of the people in the commune."
Building on the achievements already made, and to maintain its status as a commune meeting the standards of the new rural development program, Nghi My will continue to invest in many key infrastructure projects in the coming period, focusing on: inter-district roads, secondary schools, rural markets, and several cultural center grounds… contributing to making Nghi My an increasingly developed area and a shining example in Nghi Loc district.
