The Boston Marathon bombing survivor remained in critical condition in hospital on April 21 and was unable to speak due to injuries to his neck and tongue, officials said.

Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis told CBS that the FBI has still not been able to question 19-year-old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino said it was likely authorities would never be able to talk to the suspect.

The suspect is being treated at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

According to a source close to the investigation, Tsarnaev was shot in the neck and suffered injuries to his tongue.

Police are investigating the motive for the Boston Marathon bombings and whether anyone else was involved with the two Chechen brothers.

Another suspect, his brother Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, was killed in a shootout with police on the evening of April 19.

Two bombs made of pressure cookers and packed with nails exploded at the Boston Marathon on April 15, killing three people and injuring 176, plunging the United States into a week of tension and anxiety and an unprecedented manhunt for suspects in the Boston area./.
