The suspect recently arrested in Thailand is not an international terrorist.
This information was given by Thai National Police Commander Somyot Poompanmoung on August 29. Mr. Somyot also said that the motive for the attack could be personal hatred.
National police spokesman Prawut Thavornsiri also said that the suspect used a fake Turkish passport. Police also seized many fake passports as well as some evidence related to the bombing.

“Police have arrested a man. He is a 28-year-old foreigner. He was caught with materials that could be used to make explosives. The suspect is linked to both the explosions in Bangkok on August 17 and 18. We believe the criminals are the same group.”
The August 17 bombing at the Erwan shrine was the deadliest single attack in Thailand, killing 20 people.
Thai police also said that the arrested suspect was not the man in the yellow shirt recorded by security cameras, believed to be the perpetrator of the bombing.
However, the arrested man was also part of the network that carried out the two bombings.
