Ukrainian MP demands prosecution of presidential candidate
The First Deputy Chairwoman of the Verkhovnaya Rada of Ukraine, Irina Gerashenko, has just requested the initiation of a criminal case against Vladimir Zelensky, the presidential candidate of Ukraine, because of the lines of the character he plays in the series “Servant of the People”.
The lawmaker claimed that Zelensky's character used the words “idiots,” “mentally retarded” and “Down syndrome” in an “unjustified context” for insulting people with disabilities.
Ukraine should be a “tolerant country where the language of resentment and hatred is unacceptable,” she said, adding that such jokes “have no place in a civilized community.”
She also prepared a request to send a series of social structures to evaluate the statements of the character Zelensky.
“The use of medical terms in the context of insults is discriminatory and degrading,” - MP Irina Gerashenko concluded.
