US Congressman recognizes Vietnam's human rights achievements
Congressman Eni Falemavaega, ranking member of the US House Foreign Affairs Committee, has just issued a statement welcoming Vietnam's second-cycle universal periodic review (UPR) report, which was adopted by the United Nations Human Rights Council on February 8 in Geneva, Switzerland.
In the statement, Congressman Falemavaega praised the achievements mentioned in Vietnam's UPR report such as freedom of the press, freedom of speech, freedom of association, ensuring the rights of prisoners, and freedom of religion.

The statement of Congressman Falemavaega highlighted the implementation of freedom of speech, press and information in Vietnam as demonstrated by the number of newspapers, publications, radio and television channels, and emphasized that the right to freedom of association is recognized in the Constitution and protected by law.
Congressman Falemavaega also recalled his visits to Vietnam as Chairman and Ranking Member of the Asia-Pacific Subcommittee of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, during which he attended many religious events at various places of worship.
He said Vietnam is a country that facilitates religious activities and appreciated that Vietnam is actively protecting religious organizations according to the law.
In addition, Congressman Falemavaega also affirmed that Vietnam has also achieved many positive achievements in economy, health, education, gender equality and other important areas.

On April 7, at the US House of Representatives, Congressman Falemavaega respectfully presented the Congressional Recognition Certificate to Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Nguyen Quoc Cuong.
Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Cuong thanked and appreciated the work of Congressman Falemavaega. The Ambassador affirmed the consistent policy of the Vietnamese government in protecting and promoting human rights as well as Vietnam's efforts in this field.
