Long Tet holiday causes lethargy and lethargy

Speaking to reporters, National Assembly delegate Le Nhu Tien, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture, Education, Youth, Adolescents and Children, said that each Tet holiday should only last 5 days, no more than a week, instead of up to 9 days as it is now.

Many unfortunate consequences

Besides its traditional meaning, what unfortunate social consequences does the current Tet holiday that lasts nearly ten days cause, sir?

This year’s Tet holiday lasts for 9 consecutive days. This also helps us to restore our labor force, then go sightseeing, return to our hometown to reunite with family and relatives…

However, the long Tet holiday also brings with it unfortunate consequences. The most obvious is that traveling, eating, drinking, and excessive alcohol increase the number of traffic accidents. In particular, as we saw, during the last Tet holiday, there were more than 5,000 hospitalizations due to fighting, a number even larger than traffic accidents.

There are many reasons for this consequence, including the use of many stimulants, the inability to self-regulate behavior, and the inability to control oneself. In addition, the root cause is the lack of self-control in behavior. Today's youth, when they get angry, rush into each other, argue, raise their voices, and then fight, instead of thanking or apologizing to each other.

We should teach our children the word "patience" to be patient, to be patient, to be patient... But for a long time, schools, society, and families have been teaching our children to "win" at all costs, and then they become competitive and refuse to lose to anyone.

Not only that, fighting at the dinner table in each family has increased. When drunk, words come out, sometimes adults do not set a good example, but raise their voices to scold. Then the children, who should be more tolerant, argue and fight...

Or gambling is also rampant during Tet holidays. When I visited some families in the countryside, I saw gambling tables on the right, gambling tables on the left, crowded together to gamble, very unhealthy...

In addition to those unfortunate consequences, a long Tet holiday also greatly affects the working psychology of workers, affects people, especially the production and business process. What do you think about this?

The long Tet holiday will create a lazy mindset, not ready to start working. After the Tet holiday, the offices have a few days to congratulate each other, so the holiday is extended to 10-11 days instead of 9 days. Then after Tet, people compete to go sightseeing, even using public cars, going to pagodas in most offices.

During the Tet holidays, government agencies should be on duty regularly to handle work for the people, but they are all closed, causing a huge impact on the economic and social development of the country. I have some work to do, but when I call this or that agency to ask, no one is on the line. Only when I call their mobile phones do I find out that they are at the temple or at a festival.

During the long holiday, factories and mines stopped working, production and business establishments did not work, and did not create material wealth for society. This greatly affected production and business activities. I noticed that on the first day back to work after Tet, government agencies came to work very late. Most of them were not there until 8:00, often it was 9:00, and some even arrived at 10:00, yawning while driving their motorbikes to the office gate.

Tet holiday should not last more than a week

Almost every year, there are many documents making this or that request before and after Tet. But in your opinion, what should be done to make those documents and directives more substantial and effective?

Issuing documents is simple and easy. Every year there are documents requiring tightening public spending, banning gifts, bribes... but we see traffic jams in big cities. Many cars with license plates from different localities compete to give Tet gifts. This has become a custom, even an evil that cannot be eliminated. Therefore, issuing documents is easy, but how to control and implement them is the important thing.

In addition to the document, in my opinion, the superior agency must supervise the implementation of the subordinate agency. In addition, it is also necessary to promote the eyes and ears of the people, provide hotlines for them to reflect. On that basis, it is necessary to fully check, if correct, it is necessary to propose handling measures for
appropriate.

There are opinions that the number of Tet holidays should be further reduced compared to the present, or even two Tet holidays should be combined into one. What is your opinion on this issue?

Previously, I thought that Tet holiday only lasted three days, and on the third day, the agencies went back to work, which was very reasonable. Now, Tet holiday lasts for 9 consecutive days, which is too long. We should have divided it into other occasions such as summer vacation, winter vacation, or Christmas like other countries do, and given a moderate Tet holiday.

To ensure harmony, I think the traditional Tet holiday should only be about 5 days, the longest should not exceed a week. Tet holidays often coincide with Saturdays, Sundays, and then close to weekends. If we also give days off, we must have a full and serious compensation regime. This is something that the relevant agencies need to study carefully to make it more suitable.

Thank you!
