Suspected suicide of district education department head

According to initial investigation information, Head of the Department of Education and Training of Da Teh district (Lam Dong), Mr. Nguyen Thai Duong bought 2 bottles of weed killer, then went home and poured it into a glass to drink and died.

On September 28, Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Teh District Bui Van Hung informed that Mr. Nguyen Thai Duong, Head of the Department of Education and Training of Da Teh District, had died. All signs showed that Mr. Duong committed suicide by using extremely toxic herbicide.

This morning, Mr. Duong went from the district Department of Education and Training headquarters to a nearby pesticide store and bought two bottles of weed killer.

Reviewing the store's security camera, Mr. Duong asked the pharmacist to use a highly toxic herbicide to burn the grass instead of using a systemic herbicide.

At nearly 9 o'clock, Mr. Duong's son discovered that he was poisoned. Mr. Duong was immediately taken to the district hospital to have his intestines removed and then urgently transferred to Cho Ray Hospital (Ho Chi Minh City). However, the doctors determined that Mr. Duong could not be saved and died on the way home.

At the scene, authorities discovered two empty bottles of weed killer, a cup containing weed killer and a package of stomach pain medicine.

Mr. Nguyen Thai Duong has just been appointed to the position of Head of the Department of Education and Training of Da Teh district on August 1. Previously, he was appointed Deputy Head of the Department in 2015.

Mr. Bui Van Hung said that, according to verification, Mr. Duong has had no sad problems in both work and social relationships recently. Mr. Duong's neighbors also confirmed that there was no loud argument in the house.

Da Teh district authorities are continuing the investigation. Mr. Duong's hometown is in Binh Dinh province.
