Nghi Xa: Changing jobs for farmers after land acquisition
(Baonghean) - After more than 10 years of implementing compensation for land clearance by investing in the construction of Nam Cam Industrial Park, the people of Nghi Xa commune (Nghi Loc) have handed over 200 hectares of agricultural land to the State. The issue of job creation for farmers after land acquisition has been given attention... Accordingly, the Nghi Xa Commune Party Committee has issued a specialized Resolution on vocational training to create jobs for farmers whose land has been acquired; the Commune People's Committee has a plan to contact companies to introduce and provide human resources. Whenever a new factory is built and put into operation, the Nghi Xa Commune People's Committee directly meets with the company owner to encourage them to recruit local workers.
Up to now, the whole Nghi Xa commune has nearly 500 young workers with regular and stable jobs at factories in Nam Cam Industrial Park with income from 3.5 to 5.5 million VND/person/month. For older workers who are not qualified to work at factories, the commune has oriented them to participate in establishing groups such as: construction, mechanics or creating conditions for them to access entrusted loan sources, open service industries, small businesses. In particular, recently, the demand for boarding houses for workers working in Nam Cam Industrial Park has increased rapidly, people in hamlets 8, 9, 11 adjacent to the industrial park have invested in building boarding rooms for rent and other services to serve workers. Currently, in the commune, there are 300 households implementing this model, providing a fairly stable income. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa in Hamlet 9, Nghi Xa Commune shared: "Living near the industrial park, my family used the compensation money for land clearance and borrowed more to build 10 rental rooms. Now the monthly income is about 10 million VND, a stable income and much higher than the previous farming income."
With efforts to change jobs for farmers after land acquisition, up to now, 1,800 workers in Nghi Xa commune have stable jobs in factories, households, and in regions inside and outside the province, contributing positively to the socio-economic development of the locality. Starting as a purely agricultural commune, agricultural production now accounts for less than 30%; Industry and handicrafts increased to 34%, services and trade account for over 36%; the poverty rate decreased to 5%, meeting the criteria for new rural construction. Thanks to that, the security and order situation in the area is stable; social evils have decreased significantly compared to before.
In the context of a lack of agricultural land, the Party Committee and the government of Nghi Xa commune have a policy of continuing to exploit the local advantages and mobilizing people to change their jobs to suit their individual circumstances. In the coming time, we strive to have over 1,000 young workers in the area working in companies and factories; others will find suitable jobs inside and outside the locality, gradually shifting the economic structure; and increasing people's income.
