(Baonghean.vn) - On July 9th and 10th, Nghia Dan district held its 2nd District Congress of Ethnic Minorities.

Attendees included: Lo Xuan Vinh – Deputy Head of the Provincial Ethnic Affairs Committee; Nguyen Xuan Hai – Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Finance; Vi Van Dinh – Provincial Party Committee member, Secretary of the District Party Committee, Chairman of the District People's Committee; along with representatives from the District Party Committee Standing Committee, the District People's Council, the District People's Committee, the District Fatherland Front Committee, and various district-level departments and agencies, as well as 105 delegates representing ethnic minority communities in the district.

At the congress, delegates listened to Comrade Nguyen Van Nghe - Head of the District's Ethnic Affairs Department - report on the results of the 5-year implementation of ethnic affairs and ethnic policies (2009-2013), and the direction, objectives, and tasks of ethnic affairs work until 2020 in the district.

Nghia Dan is a mountainous district inhabited by three ethnic groups: Kinh, Thai, and Tho, with ethnic minorities accounting for 30.17% of the population. These ethnic groups live interspersed throughout most communes, with some concentrated in communes such as Nghia Mai, Nghia Tho, and Nghia Loi. Each ethnic group possesses its own unique cultural characteristics and features, contributing to the diversity and richness of Nghia Dan district's distinctive culture. Over the years, thanks to the guidance and support of the Party Committee and government, the assistance of provincial and central agencies, and the concerted efforts of the entire Party Committee, government, and people of all ethnic groups, Nghia Dan district has achieved encouraging results in various aspects. The lives of the people have gradually improved, the poverty rate has decreased, and political security and social order have been fundamentally maintained. In general, the people, and ethnic minorities in particular, have always trusted the leadership of the Party and the policies and laws of the State. They actively participate in labor and production emulation, economic development, poverty reduction, and the building of cultural life, contributing to the successful achievement of the socio-economic, national defense, and security goals set forth in the resolutions of the Party congresses at all levels.

Cultural and artistic performances to welcome the Congress.

The congress heard presentations from various units on economic development, maintaining order, promoting education, and fostering solidarity among ethnic minority communities, thereby assessing the situation and determining appropriate steps for the next phase.

On this occasion, the District People's Committee also awarded prizes to 6 collectives and 30 individuals with outstanding achievements in the past term, and selected 17 delegates, who are exemplary figures in various fields, to attend the upcoming Congress of Ethnic Minority Representatives in the province.

Earlier, on the night of July 9th, the district also organized a cultural exchange program to welcome the congress. The performance allowed viewers to enjoy the unique features of the district's ethnic minority cultures such as bamboo dance, xoe dance, and gong music, creating a sense of unity and solidarity among the ethnic groups in the area.
