Nghia Dan: Over 100 hectares of sugarcane infected with white cotton aphids
(Baonghean)Due to the hot weather alternating with showers and thunderstorms, which is very favorable for the development of white cotton aphids, currently, in Nghia Dan district, over 100 hectares of sugarcane are infected with aphids with a density of 05 - 0.7 nests/leaf, locally there are fields with 10 - 15 nests/leaf; the rate of infected plants is 5-7%.
According to the District Plant Protection Department, sugarcane plants damaged by white cotton aphids not only greatly affect sugar content, reduce productivity, but also affect the germination rate for the next crop. To limit the damage caused by white cotton aphids, farmers need to take the following measures:
- Regularly weed, remove old leaves, create airy sugarcane fields.
- For fields that are infected with aphids, stop fertilizing with nitrogen and increase potassium fertilization. Cut off aphid nests and take them outside to destroy.
- If the aphid density is high, over 10% of the leaves are damaged, it is necessary to use some drugs and spray in the area such as: Victory 300EC, Anboom 40EC, Dragon 525EC...
