Comradeship of Nghe An veterans
(Baonghean.vn) - In recent times, Veterans Association organizations in Nghe An province have had many meaningful, practical and effective activities in helping members have new, solid housing; supporting members in production and business, eliminating hunger and reducing poverty, and building a happy and prosperous life.
"One thousand dong house" warm and affectionate
Over the past 5 years,Veterans AssociationDien Chau district has effectively implemented the movement “House of one thousand dong” to build houses of gratitude for poor veterans in difficult circumstances. Accordingly, veterans in the district have saved at least 1,000 dong/month to contribute and join hands to eliminate dilapidated houses so that their comrades can have a more decent place to live.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Phuoc - Chairman of Dien Phuc Commune Veterans Association shared: One thousand dong can be said to be very small, but with the sharing of members in the whole district, it has "contributed bricks to build a house". During the implementation of the movement, 100% of veteran members in the commune actively participated. And not only 1,000 dong/month, many people contributed with an amount larger than the stated target. After 4 years, we have collected nearly 25 million dong, contributing to the district association to help members have housing.
Realizing the significance of the movement, up to now, in Dien Chau, 98.5% of veteran members have participated in contributing. After 5 years, 17,000 veteran members in Dien Chau district have contributed 1.2 billion VND and nearly 3,500 working days, helping 46 disadvantaged families build new houses.

Receiving the handover of the house of love - "The house of one thousand dong" from the Veterans Association of Dien Chau district, veteran Dau Thi Doan in Dien Phuc commune was moved to tears. Ms. Doan shared: I live alone, often sick so I do not have the conditions to build a house. Now thanks to the district association's support for a house "closed above, healthy below", and being given items... So my long-time wish has come true. The house filled with comradely love will be a great motivation for me to overcome difficulties and illness.
Veteran Phan Huy Tan, in Dien Loc commune, was moved: I have heart disease, pulmonary embolism, and am unable to work. For many years, my family has had to live in a dilapidated house, without the conditions to renovate and build a new one. Recently, I received 20 million VND from the District Veterans Association from the “One Thousand Dong House” fund; fellow veterans, militia, and youth union members supported 70 working days... so my family could have a new house. This is a priceless gift for my family. I will forever remember the affection of my comrades and teammates.

Mr. Cao Huy Luong - Chairman of the Dien Chau District Veterans Association shared: The "One Thousand Dong House" movement of the district association has spread widely and received the participation of other organizations and unions such as the Youth Union, Women's Union, etc. In addition to the support of the Veterans Association, each "One Thousand Dong House" also receives an average of 10 million VND/house from the Party Committee and local government - where the members in difficult circumstances live and 70 working days of the veteran members during the house building process.
Help each other reduce poverty, do good business

Along with the movement of veterans helping each other to have solid housing, the movement of "Veterans helping each other to reduce poverty, do good business..." has also been promoted, contributing to improving and raising the living standards of members' families. Specifically, the association organizations have developed plans, concretizing the movement closely to the characteristics of regions and areas; encouraging cadres and members to be self-reliant and self-reliant in building production and business models to develop the economy, especially farm and family economy.

From the results of the movement, in 2023, the Nghe An Provincial Veterans Association reduced the poverty rate among its members to 2.25% (down 0.32% compared to the end of 2022).
Currently, the province still has 354 houses of veteran families in difficult circumstances that need to be repaired and rebuilt. Of these, 165 houses need to be rebuilt and 189 houses need to be repaired. We will try to work with the association at all levels and localities to mobilize and raise donations to soon help these veteran families to rebuild and repair their degraded houses./.
