Thanh Chuong is a mountainous district with 5 rivers and a rich system of streams, lakes and dams, creating fertile alluvial plains along the Lam and Giang rivers. On the alluvial plains, corn is the most suitable and effective crop.

According to Ms. Trinh Thi Oanh in Luan Phuong hamlet, Dong Van commune, since the construction of the new rural area, the land has been converted into large plots, which is favorable for intensive farming. Each sao can harvest 2.5 - 3 quintals of corn. Each year, with 3 crops, one sao can harvest 7 - 9 quintals of corn, higher than the fields in the fields that can only grow 2 rice crops. The price of corn is 6,000 VND/kg, Ms. Oanh's income from corn is about 12.6 million VND/year.

Families have focused on growing corn three times a year. The summer-autumn crop may be flooded but will not be completely lost because it can be harvested early, so income from alluvial land is high and stable.

Spring corn yielded 6 tons/ha.

This spring crop, corn fields account for nearly 70%, equivalent to about 2,000 hectares. There are many communes with large corn fields such as Thanh Duong, Thanh Luong, Thanh Yen, Thanh Giang...

Unlike some localities in the province that can grow corn to sell as feed for livestock facilities, or sell young corn, Thanh Chuong people mainly grow corn for grain as food and for livestock, so spring corn is mainly hybrid, long-term corn. In return, high-yield corn varieties such as: NK 66, NK 6326, DK 6919, DK 9901, 30 Y 87...

Fertile alluvial soil and the application of scientific and technological advances in production have resulted in all corn crops growing well, with few pests and diseases, achieving high yields, estimated at about 60 quintals/ha. With 2,600 ha, the total revenue will be about 15,000 tons, at current prices, earning more than 80 billion VND. Thus, if only counting 2 corn crops per year, Thanh Chuong district farmers will earn about 150 billion VND.

After a period of concentrating on harvesting spring rice and planting summer-autumn rice, Thanh Chuong people are now starting to go to the fields to harvest corn and prepare the land to sow the new corn crop while the soil is still moist. After a period of experimenting with many types of crops along with fluctuations in the market mechanism, Thanh Chuong people consider corn as the main crop on the alluvial lands.
