Shocked to discover plastic button in 14 year old girl's ear

(Baonghean.vn) -The patient had an earring pierced 4 months ago. After a few days of wearing the jewelry, the plastic plug disappeared, and after 3 months it was found in an unexpected situation.

A swelling appeared right behind the left ear about 3 months ago and kept growing, reaching a size of 2x3cm. Patient Ho Thien A. (14 years old, Quynh Luu) was taken by his family to Nghe An General Hospital for examination.

After examination, the doctors of the ENT department initially diagnosed that the patient may have a sebaceous cyst or an abscess caused by a congenital atrial septal defect. The doctor ordered surgery to treat the abscess on December 18.

“We searched the surface of the abscess very carefully but found no signs of a fistula. And surprisingly, right after cutting the abscess open, mixed with a lot of pus was a white plastic earring plug. The entire medical team, the patient, and the patient's family were surprised because they did not understand how the plastic plug could get into the skin behind the ear and create an abscess. This is the first time the ENT department has encountered a case like this,” shared Master Hong Giang, ENT department.
