According to Reuters, on the social networking site Twitter, Mr. Hague said he would not participate in the general election in May 2015 to "get started on other work that I have always wanted to do."
Mr. William Hague also said that political reform is a good thing and holding a certain position is not too important to him. After resigning as Foreign Secretary, he will take up the position of Speaker of the British House of Commons.
Mr Hague, who will remain a member of the National Security Council, said: "By the time of next year's general election, I will have served 26 years in the House of Commons and 20 years in cabinet. There needs to be a balance between experience and innovation in government. I informed the Prime Minister last summer that I would not be standing in the next general election."
“My decision to resign is so that I can focus all my efforts on supporting the Government and helping the Conservative Party win the upcoming general election,” Mr Hague added.
Meanwhile, British Prime Minister David Cameron expressed "great respect" for the recently resigned Foreign Secretary and affirmed that Mr. Hague had an important role in supporting him in the upcoming election campaign. Prime Minister Cameron is reforming senior positions in the British government, preparing for the election in May 2015.
The Guardian newspaper quoted a government source as saying that Mr. Philip Hammond, the current British Defense Secretary, could be the one to replace Mr. Hague as British Foreign Secretary.
The British Prime Minister's Office announced that Mr. Cameron also accepted the resignations of seven other ministers, including Mr. Kenneth Clarke, Secretary of State and an opponent of Britain's withdrawal from the European Union (EU), Mr. Damian Green, Home Secretary; Mr. Dominic Grieve, Justice Secretary; Mr. David Willetts, Minister of Universities and Science./.
