Foreign Minister Lavrov: Russia will respond according to the principle of "tit for tat" with the US

"In Helsinki, the leaders of the two countries confirmed their intention to find common ground and ways to overcome current differences. The two sides agreed that Russia-US cooperation based on the principles of constructiveness and mutual benefit is urgently needed in many areas, especially support for strategic stability, the fight against terrorism and other modern challenges, the resolution of regional crises, as well as the development of bilateral economic and trade relations," Lavrov said.

Also in the interview, Foreign Minister Lavrov emphasized that Moscow will respond proportionately to Washington's sanctions, and affirmed that plots to deal with Russia through ultimatums will not bring results.

According to Mr. Lavrov, the relationship between the two countries "remains significantly influenced by US domestic policy, when some forces in Washington's ruling circles have "added fuel to the fire" of anti-Russian sentiment and plotted to prevent any positive progress in bilateral relations".

The head of Russian diplomacy emphasized: "We will continue to act calmly and realistically, responding to any attacks in accordance with the principle of reciprocity. At the same time, we still leave open the possibility of building normal relations with Washington, based on respect for mutual interests."

In addition, Foreign Minister Lavrov said that accusations that Russia is trying to divide Europe are absurd, because Moscow has always declared its support for deep and fair cooperation in Europe, based on the principles of complete security and fairness./.
