"The situation in Syria and Ukraine will be the main topics of talks between Trump and Putin at the Helsinki Summit," Pompeo said in an interview with Emirates Sky News Arabia. The US Secretary of State visited the UAE on July 10.
Pompeo noted that the US is working “with all parties to hold Russia, Syria and Iran to the political agreement” on the UAR. According to the US Secretary of State, the negotiations on Syria will lead to the creation of a new constitution and a political solution to the conflict, fulfilling the hopes of the Syrian people, ending the violence and allowing millions of refugees to return home.
“Washington aims to facilitate a political solution,” Pompeo said, adding that Iran and its military must leave Syria because they have no reason to remain in the country.
