Russian and US Foreign Ministers hold phone talks on the situation in the Middle East and Ukraine
According to AFP, officials said US Secretary of State John Kerry and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov had a phone conversation on January 1 about the crises in the Middle East and Ukraine.
“Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had a phone call today (January 1). They discussed the situation in the Middle East and Ukraine,” a senior US State Department official said.

Observers say the two heads of state have a good personal relationship, despite occasional frosty relations between the two governments over a number of issues, including Ukraine.
