In an interview with the Granma daily, Foreign Minister Kishida affirmed that Cuba is a friendly country to the Japanese people and Tokyo wants to promote bilateral relations to a new level.
After acknowledging the bilateral relationship and exchanges, Foreign Minister Kishida said that although there are still differences, Japan-Cuba relations remain positive, and emphasized that his visit to Cuba this time will be an opportunity to conduct open dialogue in all areas, including issues on which the two sides have not yet reached a common voice.
According to Foreign Minister Kishida, Japan wants to become a reliable partner for Cuba's development. The two countries have much room to expand, strengthen and develop their bilateral relationship. Japan supports and positively evaluates the process of normalizing Cuba-US relations, considering this an opportunity for the region to develop more quickly and stably.
According to the schedule, Foreign Minister Kishida will stay in this island nation until May 3, and will conduct many important contacts with local officials.
