Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on September 16 continued to affirm that Moscow wants peace in Ukraine, while noting the need for broad dialogue in this neighboring country, which was recognized by all parties last April in Geneva (Switzerland).

"We have a clear position: We want peace in Ukraine, which can only be achieved through a broad, nationwide dialogue involving all regions and all Ukrainian political forces. This is what Russia, the United States, the European Union (EU) and Ukraine agreed on in Geneva on April 17. Russia actively supports the creation of favorable conditions for the peaceful resolution of the serious problems facing Ukraine," Lavrov said in an interview with Spain's El Pais newspaper.

According to Mr. Lavrov, the agreement reached on September 5 during the three-way talks of the contact group in Minsk (Belarus) is an important step and "a starting point for starting a political dialogue within Ukraine to find measures of national consensus."

The Russian Foreign Minister said that all the provisions of this document must be strictly observed.

Referring to the claims of Western media agencies about the possibility that Russian soldiers have been sent into Ukrainian territory, Mr. Lavrov said that this is a manifestation of information warfare, without reality and evidence to prove it.

"Such baseless statements are characteristic of the position of the United States and some EU member states," said the Russian Foreign Minister./.
