Chinese Foreign Minister visits Vietnam

At the invitation of Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh, Foreign Minister of the People's Republic of China Wang Yi paid an official visit to Vietnam from August 3 to August 6.

On the morning of August 4, in Hanoi, Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh held talks with Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

In a friendly and frank atmosphere, the two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on bilateral relations, including measures to promote the implementation of agreements reached between the two countries in recent times, especially the implementation of the Action Program to implement the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership. The two sides also discussed international and regional issues of mutual concern.

The two Ministers highly appreciated the new developments in the bilateral relationship, especially after the phone call between General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping and the recent State visit to China by President Truong Tan Sang; at the same time, they believed that the frequent meetings and visits of high-ranking leaders of the two Parties and countries will create an important driving force to promote exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in various fields as well as promptly handle issues arising in the bilateral relationship.

The two Ministers agreed that Vietnam and China enhancing political trust and comprehensive cooperation is in line with the fundamental and long-term interests of the people of the two countries. The two sides will increase exchanges and contacts between high-ranking leaders of the two countries; promote friendly exchanges and comprehensive cooperation, especially between levels, sectors, localities and people of the two countries; promote economic and trade cooperation as well as promote cooperation in areas where both sides still have great potential, such as infrastructure construction and transport connection projects between the two countries.

Regarding the territorial border issue, the two sides highly appreciated the results of cooperation between the two countries in seriously implementing three documents related to land borders; emphasizing that in the coming time, the two Foreign Ministries will actively promote exchanges between relevant agencies to soon sign an Agreement on cooperation in exploiting tourism potential in the Ban Gioc waterfall area and an Agreement on regulations for free passage of ships at the Bac Luan river mouth.

Exchanging opinions on the East Sea issue, the two sides affirmed to resolve all disagreements through peaceful and friendly negotiations, properly handle arising issues with a constructive attitude, and not let these issues affect the Vietnam-China friendly cooperative relationship as well as peace and stability in the East Sea.

Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh emphasized that the two sides need to persistently resolve maritime disputes on the basis of the Agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement of maritime issues between Vietnam and China, international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and the spirit of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), towards building a Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC).

The two sides assessed that the cooperation between the two Foreign Ministries is increasingly effective and agreed to further strengthen cooperation and coordination between the two sides in the coming time./.
