The Cang Village Thai Folk Song Club is the result of the passion for folk songs, the people who are devoted to the traditional culture of their ancestors, led by Mr. Luong Nghiep - a Thai living in the village community, whose childhood was bathed in the spring of folk songs, the sound of the pi xap, the sound of the khen... Nowadays, many villagers turn their backs on folk songs, but after many struggles and with the permission of the authorities at all levels, the Cang Village Thai Folk Song Club was born in 2010.
At first, Mr. Nghiep felt worried because he was afraid of not receiving support from the villagers. However, since its establishment, the villagers' club has paid great attention to the club's activities. On the launching day, 14 people enthusiastically participated, after 4 years of operation, the number of members has reached 42 people.

Performance at the exchange night. |
Since the establishment of the Folk Song Club, Cang village has become bustling with the sounds of the "Xau", "Xuoi", "Pia Phap", and "Khen Be". Every Saturday night, the clubs meet at the village's community cultural house. They come here not only to meet, but also to review the ancient "Xau" melodies of the Tay Thanh people in the two communes of Mon Son and Luc Da. They compose new lyrics for folk songs to serve the purpose of propagating the policies of the Party and the State, praising the homeland and the country, and fighting against bad habits. Club members also actively collect ancient folk songs that are still "hidden" somewhere in the community to enrich their folk song repertoire and widely disseminate them in the community. Ethnic minority musical instruments such as the xixo, the "tinh" and the "Pia Phap" have also been restored thanks to experienced artisans in the Club.

Young members of Cang village play musical instruments at the festival. |
Visiting the Thai Folk Song Club of Cang village on the happy day when the unit received the Certificate of recognition for advanced model at the provincial level, in the warm evening of early spring, the Club and the villagers organized a performance festival. The village's teenagers and children participated in the performance team in great numbers, enthusiastically playing the pi xam. The bamboo dances, although still clumsy, had a lovely, childlike look. Although the flute was not yet proficient, the children knew how to play the basic melodies of their ancestors.
Lo Tien Dat, a first-grader, appeared to be very enthusiastic about practicing the flute before the performance. He said he was still not good at holding the flute, but he would try to practice. Meanwhile, Lo Thi Phuong Thao, a fifth-grader, appeared more mature. She held the flute in her hand and played a tune she had just learned. She said she was very impressed with the small flute...
Mr. Luong Nghiep, the Club's Chairman, said the idea of bringing children to participate in art troupes performing Thai folk songs is to awaken in each child's soul the love for the folk songs of their ancestors. It is a humane idea of the small border commune of Mon Son!
