Waiting for the eternal bridge

(Baonghean) - We are Thai people, living in Tien Ky commune (Tan Ky). If we calculate, our commune's economy is one of the most difficult in the district. The reason? Because of the roads. The roads are difficult to travel on and we have to cross many streams. Without roads and bridges, not only is it difficult to travel, but it is also difficult to do business.

The immediate hardship is that during the season of cutting down acacia and pulling up cassava, people want to sell, and it is very difficult for cars to come and buy for them. As for cassava and acacia growers, they are at a disadvantage and have to sell at low prices. Traders know that if they cut down cassava and leave it in the field for too long, it will spoil, so they force down the price. Even acacia trees are forced to lower their prices. If the road were more convenient, it would not be so bad. Maybe the villagers themselves could buy cars to transport cassava and acacia to sell.

When we go to the district or people from outside the district want to go back, we have to cross Khe Than stream. This stream is really beautiful, but when it rains and winds, it only makes the people suffer. The stream is wide and deep, and has a spillway, so when the flood comes, the children have to stay home from school. In many villages, children who have just started kindergarten have to cross the spillway to go to school. Sometimes, it only rains at the headwaters of Quy Hop, but we live lower down, the spillway is also flooded, so we don't know how to avoid accidents. The children are the most pitiful. Luckily, this year, there has been little rain, so there has been little flooding.

Recently, the villagers heard that the government will soon build a permanent reinforced concrete bridge for the villagers. Hearing that the bridge is coming, the villagers are happy. Because the villagers are about to receive great attention from the government.

However, I heard that the bridge will be built next year, during Tet. Even if it is built, it will take a few years to finish. We have to wait. The permanent bridge cannot be built in a hurry. It is okay to wait, because our villagers have been waiting for it for many years. What is wrong with waiting a few years, as long as we have a permanent bridge?!
