Quynh Luu fishermen caught two giant sunfish
(Baonghean.vn) -While fishing off the coast of the Gulf of Tonkin, two fishermen in Quynh Luu (Nghe An) caught a pair of giant Sunfish.
On the morning of September 12, two fishermen in Quynh Luu contacted the Vietnam Museum of Nature to donate two rare Sunfish that they had caught in the Gulf of Tonkin.
Earlier, on the morning of September 11, more than 100 nautical miles offshore, Mr. Vu Xuan Trong's fishing boat (living in Minh Thanh village, Quynh Long commune, Quynh Luu, Nghe An) discovered a large fish with a special shape caught in the net. After bringing the strange fish onto the deck, everyone realized that it was a rare Sunfish listed in the Red Book. The Sunfish weighed over 300 kg, was over 2.4 m long, and over 1.5 m wide. Mr. Trong said: "The fish was so heavy that we had to use a crane to bring it onto the boat, because it was the first time we saw such a strange fish, so we were very surprised.

Immediately afterwards, Mr. Trong contacted the mainland through the Ben Thuy Coastal Information Station and learned that this was a rare Sunfish, listed in the Vietnam Red Book, so he iced it, carefully preserved it and brought it ashore.
Also on September 11, the fishing boat of Mr. Nguyen Tien Thanh (residing in Phu Lien village, Quynh Long commune, Quynh Luu, Nghe An) also caught a Sunfish weighing more than 100 kg; 1.4 m long and more than 1 m wide. After receiving the information, on the afternoon of September 12, staff of the Vietnam Museum of Nature were present at the family of the two fishermen to receive the 2 fish to serve research and display.
It is known that this is not the first time Nghe An fishermen have caught rare Sunfish, but these two Sunfish are the largest ever caught in the net. Previously, on August 27, 2012, Mr. Bui Van Can (Quynh Phuong commune, Quynh Luu, Nghe An) also caught a Sunfish weighing 1.2 quintals and measuring more than 1.5 meters long.
