(Baonghean) Every day, at 9am, he temporarily puts aside all his work to spend time on the party newspaper pages. At 74 years old, those habits have followed him for more than half a century. For him, the press, Nhan Dan newspaper, Nghe An newspaper have become his close friends for decades.
He is Bui Van Vien, a veteran in Quang Trung ward, Vinh city. Talking to us, he excitedly told us about his first memory of coming into contact with a newspaper: "It was in 1954, after the Dien Bien Phu Victory, I read the victory information in the press. At that time, I was only in my teens, for the first time in my life I knew what a newspaper looked like. Later, when I grew up and joined the army, I had more opportunities to come into contact with party newspapers. Reading a lot became a habit, I couldn't give it up."
For Mr. Bui Van Vien, Nghe An newspaper is an indispensable spiritual food.
According to him, as a party member and veteran, reading party newspapers every day is a very necessary task to update the Party and State's guidelines and policies, and to apply them practically in real life. For example, recently, Nghe An newspaper published very complete information about the National Cadre Conference to disseminate and implement the Resolution of the 4th Central Conference (11th term) on "Some urgent issues on Party building today". Information guiding the review plan, self-criticism, and criticism of party members; "Regulations on what party members are not allowed to do"... for party members and people to follow, demonstrating the timeliness and high orientation of a party newspaper.
With Nghe An newspaper - the voice of the Party, government and people of his home province, he excitedly shared his sincere thoughts after decades of being a loyal reader of the newspaper: "I believe that before knowing the domestic and international situation, one must be very close and intimate with the current events of his locality. And I am very happy that our province has Nghe An newspaper which always updates information in the province very promptly, diversely in all aspects of life, accurately reflecting the thoughts and aspirations of the people. Many cases after being reported by the newspaper have been thoroughly resolved, ensuring the legitimate rights of the people." He confided that in Nghe An newspaper, he especially likes the "Hotline" section, although it is only a small section on page 6, it shows the hot opinions and urgent issues of the people, more importantly, it affirms the belief in the role of the party newspaper as a "bridge" between the people and the government.
However, according to him, the "Good people, good deeds" column on the front page of the newspaper should actively promote more typical examples in society, especially examples among young people, thus inspiring more good deeds of the province's youth, contributing to reducing the moral and lifestyle degradation of a part of the youth today. At the same time, increasing the provision of information on security and order, traffic accidents, partly to help people access the news, and partly to raise vigilance and caution in life.
