The Department of Preventive Medicine also said that the MERS-CoV virus may have originated from bats and then transmitted to camels, which then became the main reservoir of the virus that initially transmitted the disease to humans. The disease can be transmitted from person to person, mainly through direct contact with respiratory secretions in groups of people in close contact with patients.

The incubation period is from 2 to 14 days. Patients have symptoms ranging from mild fever, cough to more severe symptoms such as difficulty breathing, pneumonia, acute respiratory failure, in addition to gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea and can cause organ failure, especially kidney failure, high risk of death; mortality rate from 35% - 40%.

Some people infected with MERS-CoV may have no symptoms or very mild clinical manifestations, making it difficult to detect. To date, there is no specific treatment for the disease and no vaccine to prevent it.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism recommends that international travel agencies should not organize tours to areas with MERS-CoV epidemics, and proactively control tourist groups from epidemic areas to Vietnam. In addition, international travel agencies should continuously update information on the epidemic and epidemic prevention measures according to the recommendations of the World Health Organization and the Ministry of Health, and provide full information to tourists. When welcoming international tourist groups from markets related to the epidemic, businesses need to cooperate closely with the Health Quarantine Agency at international border gates to fully carry out health check procedures for tourists in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Health.
