(Baonghean.vn) - Most of the houses in the community of 85 households in Pung village, Yen Thang commune (Tuong Duong) have a cassava patch on the hill next to the village. According to village chief Luong Quang Vinh, the total cassava area in the village is about 6 hectares planted on the high mountain.

This is the first time the Thai people in Pung village have grown cassava for commercial purposes. Previously, people here grew cassava on the mountain purely for livestock and family food needs. |

Cassava is transported by basket from the fields in the high mountains to the collection point. This transportation work is quite hard for the Thai women in Pung village. |

According to the locals, each healthy person can harvest and transport 8-10 baskets of cassava, equivalent to 3.5-5 quintals. |

Bamboo baskets are used to transport cassava from the mountain to the asphalt road. This mountain slope is about 0.5km long. |

Cassava harvesting is mainly done by hand, with hoes and spades and is often labor-intensive while the benefits are negligible. |

According to cassava growing households here, the household with the highest income from growing cassava is about 5 - 6 million VND, many households only get 2 - 3 million VND from growing cassava. |

Currently, transporting cassava and other agricultural and forestry products in Yen Thang commune has become easier thanks to National Highway 48C passing through the area. |
