Along with protecting the crop area, livestock are also carefully cared for by farmers. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien in Hamlet 1, Thach Son Commune raises 12 breeding cows. Knowing the weather information on the mass media about the increasing cold spell, she did not let the cows out into the fields like the previous days but kept them in the barn to feed them straw.

According to Ms. Hien, learning from previous years’ experiences, last season she collected all the straw and stored it, so her family’s cows did not have to worry about food shortages during the cold days. At the same time, she supplemented the herd with corn bran, cassava and fresh winter corn.
