People are not interested in iodized salt.
(Baonghean) -Currently in Thanh Chuong district, about 50% of people are still not interested in iodized salt. There are many reasons, including the reason that some products and dishes are not suitable if processed with iodine. For example, they think that if they make soy sauce with iodized salt, it will not be as delicious as regular salt, so they ignore iodized salt.
According to medical staff, iodized salt has the effect of balancing and supplementing the amount of iodine that is lacking in the human body. If there is a lack of iodine, it will lead to body disorders, which can lead to many diseases such as tumors, fibroids, etc. In the past, due to the habit of people not wanting to go to shops or markets to buy salt but buying from people selling salt along the street, so the product does not have the amount of iodine as in the salt bags that are already packaged in shops or salt dealers. Meanwhile, according to statistics from Nghe An Oncology Hospital, in 2013, the rate of patients coming for examination, treatment, and surgery for goiter tended to increase compared to previous years, in which part of the reason is still due to iodine deficiency.
In order for people to understand and use iodized salt in their daily meals, first of all, it is necessary for the authorities from the district to the grassroots to closely coordinate with relevant sectors and widely propagate to all classes of people about the role and effects of iodized salt. It is recommended that relevant sectors and the health sector coordinate to strengthen propaganda about the benefits of using iodized salt to each person; Mobilize retail outlets and grocery stores to sell iodized salt, limit the sale of regular salt so that people can easily buy and use iodized salt.
